Extravaganja!

Extravaganja. Taking place for a 19th time 4/17/10

Time to start getting pumped up!

Extravaganja, if you haven’t heard the word, is our proud pro-pot protestival where we gather a crowd, rain or shine, to raise the awareness of the absurdity of marijuana prohibition and celebrate many years of fighting for reform and responsible use.

And this year we plan to throw down.

As always, great music can be expected from noon till dusk with people from various backgrounds speaking out against the drug war and demanding reform. The bands are local groups that we love including one (or two, if we have too difficult a choice to make like last year) new band that has proven themselves worthy through our own Battle of the Bands which takes place in March. For more information about the battle, check out the webpage. (Not yet in existence)

Vendors will grace the perimeters and opposite the stage the DJ tent will be bumpin’ for people who have a need to seriously get their groove on. We will be inviting many student-run groups such as Umass’ Craft Center, People’s Market, the Anthro Caucus, and others who have wares to display or information to spread.

As usual, we will have a table where we will be have more information, tee-shirts, DIY tie-dye, hydration and other surprises.

This event is possible only through the cooperation of the Amherst Police force and all of you who come here every year. As long as we keep our demonstrations peaceful and within the boundaries of the rally there will not be an issue. If there is no drug trafficking occurring there will not be an issue. However, drinking on the commons is not allowed and the police can take notice and you will be persecuted for it. So, please, leave that for after the show.

Also, keep in mind that we are a student-run organization and we are responsible for this event and all that remains when it is over. Please, please, please, be respectful of this and properly dispose of your trash, recyclables, blunt guts and cigarette butts. We will do our best to provide adequate proper receptacles. With so many munchies going around it’s hard to keep up! ;)

We do not have a band set or list of speakers as of yet, but we will let you know when we do.

If you’re a looking to set up a booth at extravaganja, contact us. We have in the past had the guidelines for vendors as first-come first-serve but there has been much stoner confusion that we are going to try and avoid by getting organized. We want to have vendors contact us beforehand so we know who to expect and have set locations for vendors and organizations. There will be a contract agreement, but don’t fear; there isn’t anything sneaky on it. This is just to keep our expectations as clear as possible. To view the contract, Click Here

If you’re looking to play at extravaganja, contact us with a demo and if you’re up to par with our funky standards you may battle to prove your worth at the Annual CRC Battle of the Bands.

Till then, screw the war on drugs, vote hemp, and spread the tokin’ gospel

Can’t wait to see you all there!
